I am thankful for family!

We have been knocking out the projects here at home. Two weeks ago Matt and his brother Denny built a tack shed over the weekend. Matt finished it up last weekend. The last two nights my parents have been helping us put in a yard. We finally planted it last night and put straw over it. It is going to be huge! My next investment is going to be a riding lawn mower! A couple of friends came by yesterday to have their horses hooves trimmed and we ended up trading trimming for fixing the roof on the playhouse (getting done as we speak) and fixing the roof to King's stall. The wind out here had got them both! So check, check, check, check on the list of things to do around here! We still have to paint our house, the stall, the tack shed, put a tin roof on the tack shed, build 13 corrals, build permanent fence, and "polish" up the yard with plants and trees. It is all coming together. I started to hate to go outside because I would see all that had to be done. I am almost seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. But what I really can't wait to see is the green on the yard!

I don't think any of this would be getting done without family helping out and our friends helping out. I am so thankful for their help and being able to see the whole picture when I can't seem to think it will ever end. It means so much that they would volunteer their time to help make our place able to function! Matt is working completely at home now. It has been comical how Mesa is out with him the whole time he is home. The only time she comes in the house is when Matt goes to ride in the hills. She goes out and "trains" her pony, Pepsi...ALL DAY LONG!

A week after the Mustang Challenge, Matt put on a small basketball tournament during our town's Strawberry Daze. Matt's brother Denny came up to referee and he brought his wife, Mary and the kids: Katy, Asa, Ben, & Sophie. Matt's other brother, Steve, came up to play and he brought his wife, Leslie, and kids Molly and Austin. It was great to see them again. It had been almost a year since we had seen Denny and Mary and Thanksgiving weekend since we had seen Leslie and Steve. The kids are growing up so fast. They all played and had a good time together I think. The guys ended up getting first in the tournament and I got a great picture of Steve showing victory. I told him I was putting it on my blog. One team there was from LaGrande High School. I walked up to the team afterward and said, "I use to teach in LaGrande a long time ago." Before I got that all out, one kid said, "You're Mrs. Zimmerman." I looked at him with utter shock because I didn't recogize him. When he told me his name I couldn't belive it! It was a student I had had in the 3rd grade! He was all grown up--big 16 year old! There was another student I had had in 3rd grade on the team. It was great to see what young men they have turned into! I was so glad our family came up and that we got to spend time with them. I am really lucky to have great brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. That was the most relaxing we had done weeks. Yes, 14 people in one house was actually relaxing to me.
Here is Cool Uncle Steve:
The next week brought on no major time lines of things that had to get done. Much less stressfull. I did get out most of the cookbooks that our family put together. I still have some to mail out and then I will completely be finished with this 5 year project. Most of them got delivered during my Grandpa Kenny's family reunion. My aunt had it up in Sumpter where she lives this past weekend. The girls and I went with my parents and met my grandpa's cousins on his mom's side and also saw my dad's cousins. It was great to see people you don't get to see very often, but you have a spot just for them in your heart. We stayed at a bed and breakfast in the town of Sumpter. It was actually the old hospital from 1900-1912, interesting. At the reunion we had a no host dinner, then went back to Marion and Wayne's place and roasted marshmallows, played some outdoor game, listened to relatives play the fiddle and the guitar, and chatted. The next day we went to church and had another lunch together.

This weekend I am glad to say doesn't require any special event. Whew! We are just going to get some projects done I am sure!
