You know the part on Finding Nemo when Nemo wakes up and says, "First day of school, first day of school!"? Well, that was pretty much what happened at our house on Monday morning. It is rare to see Mesa to get her self up willingly EARLY in the morning and be in a great mood. She was so excited. Our only tears that morning were from when I wouldn't let her ride the school bus. I assured her that I was pretty sure it was a rule on the first day of school that mom's HAD to take their kids to school. She finally let it go (then of course on our way to school we saw ALL of the neighbor kids waiting for the bus--I think she was convinced that I was--once again--wrong.) She looked so cute all ready for her first day with her purple backpack stuffed with school supplies and her new pink and white Sketcher shoes that she HAD to have because Jaci from Pre-school said Sketchers make you run fast! She had a great first day. It is sure a blessing to be at school with her and I can check in pretty much whenever. I see her when I have recess duty and everyday at snack time in the cafeteria. She was so exhausted on the first day that 10 minutes after school was over she was out and napped for two hours!
My first day with my first graders and my high schoolers went pretty good. It is fun and the age difference isn't hard at all. What IS hard is everynight I have a lot of history homework and I haven't quite got into a routine yet. We'll get there.
This was also Matt's birthday. We celebrated later on that evening. Thanks to my mom he had two cakes and some ice cream to help us celebrate--there was no way I was able to make him a cake on such an exhausting day. I love my mom, she's the best!

Yeah! I'm so glad things went so well. Still, there is a little bit of me that wants them to be sad to leave me, (selfish, I know) but in the end it's so good that they are ready to go and happy about too! Congrats to Mesa on her first week of Kindergarten! And to you too, on your first week of a new job with the high schoolers! Hope you are all well, I love and miss you guys! K
Great post! Mesa is a darling and I am glad I get to see her in the morning before she goes to school. You had a busy 1st week of school...I hope all settles in and we can walk again.
BTW...you do have a GREAT mom. Give her a hug for me!
P.S. it's dangerous to listen to "Slipping Through My Fingers" while reading your first day of school post...must have kleenex handy!!!!
Hey Kelsey--Cute kids including Larry the Cucumber!! I'm finally braving the internet and starting to set up a blog. (With help from my sister Susie.) I'm sure you'll find time for everything and things will calm down--about the time school is out!! =)
