No, not us....but I gotcha didn't I!?
At about 9:30 this morning, Matt walked in the house and said, "Come outside, we've got a problem..." It didn't sound too urgent and he had a twinkle in his eye so I knew it wasn't that big of a problem. This is what he had found:

We had NO idea our Palomino mare was bred! We got her last spring and she must have been carrying that baby this whole year. She didn't even look pregnant! Matt had said last week he thought she was getting fat and he figured he'd just ride her to get some weight off. Well, the weight is gone now!!
The girls and I are so excited for our "suprise baby." It's a little baby stud colt (although eventually we'll geld him of course). I can't tell if Matt is excited. I don't think so. He just sees another mouth to feed. We are trying to get our horse herd number down--not up! We haven't bred mares for the last two years for that reason. At least he came from his very favorite horse.
The Palomino must have had it while Matt was out talking to our neighbor about 50 yards away. This morning when Matt went to feed the horse at 6:30 she hadn't had it. And while he was talking to our neighbor about 8:30/9:00 he mentioned all the horses were looking over toward the pen she was in. He didn't bother to check it out though because they weren't excited or anything but he wondered what they we're all looking at.
Mesa was so excited to say the least! She told us, "I PRAYED THAT GOD WOULD GIVE ME A BABY HORSE!! AND HE REMEMBERED!!" It was too cute. Then I asked her, "When did you pray for a baby horse?" She said, "Before Kindergarten." I quickly replied with, " Please, don't pray for a baby sister or brother!"
Here are some pictures of "Mr. Suprise" himself. He's got to be only two-three hours old. We've been calling him "Tippy," ---"Tip," ---- "T-Train" because of his tipping ear. It's cute right now and hopefully his ear won't stay that way! There are also some pictures of Matt imprinting the little guy so he gets use to human scent, etc. After about 5 minutes of it the baby was sleeping.
I also have to mention about the cats and Ginger. They have been out in the pen with them all morning. Matt moved the pair into a pen closer to our house and our pets just think it is great. In fact, you can see one of the cat's ears in one of the pictures. Ginger is a very mothering dog. We've watched her be so mothering to our kids, baby kittens, her own puppies of course, and now this baby colt. She has not left the pen where that colt is at. I looked out a little while ago and the baby colt, Ginger, and a cat was sleeping real close to one another out in the sun. Too cute! What a great suprise gift we got this morning!
